Troy City Council President Carmella Mantello is asking for Mayor Patrick Madden to take action to reduce the financial burden on the city.

In a letter to the mayor, Mantello was among several members of the council to ask that he take steps outlined in their Financial Action Plan. The plan consists of seven steps, including a hard freeze on any hiring for the foreseeable future, the elimination of all new proposed positions, and a cap on all overtime spending. They also requested that Madden submit a home rule message on the hotel occupancy tax for the city.

Mantello says she is planning to call a Finance Committee meeting in the near future. Last week, the city council failed to override the tax cap, making Mayor Madden's 2017 proposed budget obsolete.
