The tree is lit and that means the village of Manlius is now officially in the holiday spirit.

The community got together Sunday to watch the annual tree lighting ceremony, but before the main event, kids enjoyed storytelling, crafts and even a visit from Santa.

There were also snacks, hot cocoa and Christmas carols.

Mayor Paul Whorrall said the free event is a decades-old tradition that everyone enjoys.

"The kids love it, there are also crafts that are going on in the gymnasium where they can go in and make ornaments and stuff. So it's really a good program. It's good for the kids, it's good for the families, and it's really great for the village," said Whorrall.
