ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- On Tuesday, voters in the Town of Orchard Park will decide on a proposal to build a new multi-purpose recreation center at Brush Mountain Park on California Road.

Town board members detailed the $14 million plan Thursday night at the first of three open forums on the project. It would include a senior center, gym, toddler-age care and rooms for meetings. Board members said the project is needed because the current senior and recreation centers are outdated and costly to maintain.

Some said they're worried about putting all age groups under one roof, but town leaders said it shouldn't be a problem.

"The seniors have their own wing in this complex, and designed for their particular needs,” said Orchard Park Town Board member Michael Sherry. “The community center park is designed for non-seniors. So, all the way from toddlers up to those who, again, aren't quite into those senior years."

Money for the project would come from current senior center fundraising and a proposed 30-year bond.

The other two meetings on the proposal will be held Saturday November 5 at 10 a.m. in the Municipal Center Board Room, and Monday November 7, also in the Municipal Center Board Room.
