NEW YORK CITY -- It's a big day for fans of mixed martial arts, as the sport's biggest promoter gets ready to host its first event in the Empire State since it became legal earlier this year.

Ultimate Fighting Championship is hosting UFC 205 tonight at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Gov.Andrew Cuomo signed the bill in May to officially legalize MMA in New York State, the last state in the country where it became legal.

Saturday night's card features 11 fights and will be televised on pay-per-view.

UFC reports it sold more than $17 million in tickets, setting a box-office record for Madison Square Garden.

UFC also has a fight night planned for Albany in December.
