A lucky kitten in Poughkeepsie got out of a pipe she was stuck in, thanks to a resident and a plumber. Tamani Wooley has the story of "Piper."

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- A kitten that was stuck in an underground pipe is now safe thanks to the hard work of a Poughkeepsie resident, and a local plumber.

A resident at a Poughkeepsie apartment complex heard that cat's cries.

After being told that animal control in the city only responds to dog calls, he tried to rescue the kitten, but was unsuccessful.

The resident then called Mr. Rooter Plumbing, who sent their employee, Erik Sickler, out to help.

He was able to cut the pipe, and eventually get the kitten out.

It's estimated she was stuck in the pipe without food or water for three days.

The kitten, which has been named "Piper," was checked out at the Arlington Animal Hospital, and given a clean bill of health.

She is now ready to be adopted through the organization "Stray Help."

Stray Help is a registered 501(c)(3) not-for-profit rescue organization that rescues and cares for stray and homeless animals, focusing on trap neuter and release for feral cats, while providing humane education to the community.
