ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- A ceremony Tuesday at the Rochester Institute of Technology connected the college with a budding local industry, as RIT officially dedicated its new $18 million AMPrint Center for Advanced Technology.

It's among the first research labs in the world to focus on development of 3D printing.

RIT is partnering with Xerox to make sure the school and its students are part of a fast-growing-industry and that could mean jobs for the Rochester region.

"I think a lot of the technologies that were invented here in Rochester are equally applicable to the 3D printing 2.0 and it's my personal hope that Rochester has a major say in the next generation of 3D printing technologies and the jobs that come with it," said Denis Cormier, AMPrint Center director.

Lt. Gov.  Kathy Hochul says the state invested in the the lab to propel two industries our region is known for, printing and imaging.
