ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- A judge has ruled news cameras will be allowed in the courtroom during the murder trial of Jalen Everett. Everett is charged in the triple fatal mass shooting on Genesee Street that happened in August 2015.
Monroe County Court Judge Doug Randall will allow media cameras inside the courtroom for opening arguments, closing arguments, jury instructions and the verdict.
In the meantime, the task of seating a jury continues in the Jalen Everett murder trial. Everett is the second defendant to stand trial for the August 2015 deadly mass shooting on Genesee Street.
Back in June, Johnny Blackshell was convicted of murder in the deaths of Raekwon Manigualt, Jonah Barley and Johnny Johnson. Four others were wounded in that shooting.
Prosecutors say more than two dozen rounds were fired from a vehicle into a group just outside the Boys and Girls Club. The defense attorney for Everett says he's fighting to a fair jury for his client.
"Despite hearing about the case from the media that they can separate that from what they will hear in the courtroom and we think we have a good pool and we anticipate people who can follow the law, presume Jalen innocent, and follow reasonable doubt," said Clark Zimmerman, defense attorney.
The defense is hoping to have a jury seated by the end of the week and opening statements could begin next Monday.
