ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- New York State Police are investigating an early morning hit-and-run crash on Route 104 where one person was hit by a vehicle.

State police say a woman in her 40s is in the hospital with serious injuries after she was hit by a pickup truck on Route 104 in Rochester around 5 a.m.

Authorities say another motorist called 911 after witnessing a pickup truck hit someone on 104 west in Rochester. When first responders got to the scene on 104 near Clinton and Hollenbeck, they found an injured woman on the side of the road and took her to the hospital.

State police say the witness was able to provide a basic description of the suspect vehicle as a dark-colored pickup truck with a trailer attached. Police are hoping to find out more information from any other witnesses and the victim.

"Certainly we will talk to her when she is able and speak to her family as to why she was out there in the first place. I would imagine somebody knows something about the person who is responsible for this. Call us at 279-8891. We'd like to get to the bottom of what happened out here this morning," said Trooper Mark O'Donnell.

Police say that pickup truck likely has some front-end damage.
