Mayor Bill de Blasio and other city lawmakers came together Wednesday to announce plans to build a new YMCA recreational building in Edenwald.
The 50,000 square foot center will have two swimming pools, a basketball court, gym, and indoor track.
Officials say the project is a long time coming.
"There's people here who have been fighting for this idea literally for the past couple of decades," De Blasio said.
"This community has asked for this from different mayors from Koch to Dinkins to Giuliani to Bloomberg and now to Mayor de Blasio, so I'm happy to say they all listened, but one finally carried through and we're today," said Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie.
The new facility will bring 100 permanent jobs when construction is complete.
