AMSTERDAM, N.Y. -- A ribbon cutting ceremony marks the completion of the Mohawk Valley Gateway overlook pedestrian Bridge in Amsterdam.

The $17.5 million project was completed to connect the city's south side neighborhoods and the Erie Canal trail with the city's downtown area on the north side.

This project is part of the state's $27 billion investment in roads and bridges throughout upstate New York.

City officials hope to see economic benefits.

Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul joined other state and local leaders for Wednesday's ceremony.

The Bridge features historical artifacts, memorandums, and pictures of the city's history.
