BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Neighbors of Tiffany's Cabaret say despite changing names and owners over the years, problems associated with the strip club at 1048 Clinton Street and its clientele lingered like a bad dream.

"It was a nightmare for a long time. Waking up, thinking you're hearing firecrackers, and it's actually gunshots," said Mary Pendziwiatr, Buffalo resident.

Since 2007, there have been hundreds of police calls to the area.

"It was an absolute nightmare. My front bedroom is in my front window. I would be scared to sleep at night. I would have to take my kids and sleep in the farthest part of the house," Alyssa Metros, Buffalo resident.

The new owners opened as Tiffany's in 2014, and added more security, but neighbors say the problems continued. The city shut down the club after an incident earlier this year. Tiffany's owner David Scrivani voluntarily surrendered the club's liquor license.

"I wouldn't say that there's a general opposition by the city to adult entertainment. That's not the issue with this establishment," said Mayor Byron Brown, D-Buffalo. "The issue with this establishment is that there were numerous calls, gunshots outside the establishment that emanated from inside the establishment."

Brown also announced another establishment of this type will not be allowed to open here on Clinton Street.

"We're all happy. Children can play a lot safer now," said Pendziwiatr.

"I think that it's finally a change and it needed to come for a long time, but there were a lot of loopholes, and they just kept opening and opening," Metros said.

The mayor says those loopholes are now closed for good.

Time Warner Cable news reached out to the owner of Tiffany's but his staff at one of his other businesses tells us he is out of town.
