DEWITT, N.Y. -- Syracuse University basketball coach Jim Boeheim and his wife Juli hit the green Thursday, and it wasn't just for the sunny weather.

The First Tee Syracuse named a new course at Butternut Creek Golf Course in honor of the Jim and Juli Boeheim Foundation.

Boeheim carried out the first ceremonial golf swing.

The First Tee Syracuse is a non-profit that uses the game of golf to teach important life skills to youth.

Something the Boeheim's say they are proud to support.

"It's probably one of the best organizations that we have in Upstate New York for working with young kids, not just about the game of golf, but the game of life," Jim Boeheim said. "Trying to help kids learn on and off the course things that can really help them."

The First Tee of Syracuse began in 2007 as a pilot program and has continued to grow.
