The New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) announced Thursday plans to revamp three public housing complexes.
Officials said they are looking to add nearly 500 affordable units at three developments.
They include the Van Dyke Houses and the Ingersoll Houses in Brooklyn, and the Mill Brook Houses in the Mott Haven section of the Bronx.
The apartments would mostly cater to low-income residents 60 years or older and would offer NYCHA tenants a preference of 25 percent of the new units, the city's housing authority said.
Planned amenities include a rooftop terrace, health and wellness centers, and culture and arts activities such as dancing and boxing classes.
The city has tapped three private developers to implement the changes, according to housing officials.
Residents from each housing complex helped develop the proposals, housing officials said.
Officials said the slated round of upgrades are part of Mayor Bill de Blasio's Housing New York plan, which aims to build or preserve 200,000 affordable housing units over ten years.
