A special story time was held in Astoria to call attention to a need for Library funding.
Councilman Costa Constantinides and Queens Library President Dennis Walcott read to children at the Steinway Library on Friday.
The pair was trying to raise awareness about the funding needs of the Queens Library.
"When you make a library stronger, you make a community stronger," Constantinides said.
The City Council budget has not been decided and therefore funding for the Queens Library is still uncertain.
"We can't afford to be cut, and more importantly we need to increase the funds,” Walcott said.
Last year, the Queens Library was able to extend its service to six days a week when it got an extra $12 million dollars in operating expenses.
