ITHACA, N.Y. -- It's not quite swimming weather yet, but that didn't stop hundreds from taking the plunge into the water at Taughannock Falls State Park.

The Annual Ithaca Polar Plunge is helping raise money for the Special Olympics.

Raising $300 helps sponsor a Special Olympics Athlete right from the Ithaca area.

It's the third year of the event, an organizers say it continues to grow.

"We were here last year, and since last year it's doubled, and from the year before that it double last year," participant Julie Malysa said. "Just to see how many people in Ithaca alone  care about this, it's huge."

So far more than $46,000 has been raised by Saturday's event.
