ANGOLA, N.Y. -- It's the school that kicked off the movement of collecting money, shaving off all your hair and donating the cash to Roswell Park Cancer Institute. Bald for Bucks is happening today at Lake Shore High School.

A close shave for some, and others donating their locks. Lake Shore has raised $30,000 so far, but that number continues to grow as students, teachers and community members flooded the cosmetology room this morning and hopped in a chair.

This is the high school where Bald for Bucks originated.

14-years-ago, teacher Anthony George shaved his head to support his sister Cathleen, who was going through a third round of cancer and treatments. Students joined in, and the rest is history.

Many folks say going bald or cutting your hair shorter is a way to stand in solidarity with family and friends who are suffering from the disease.

"For all the other kids that have cancer that can be benefitted by this," cancer survivor Andrew Masse said.

Monetary donations are going right to Roswell. It's helping researchers develop cancer vaccines, work on lifesaving diagnostic test for patients with lung cancer and provide quality of life services like art therapy and support groups.
