The MTA says service on the 7 line has resumed after being suspended for part of the evening rush Tuesday.

According to the MTA, a train with mechanical problems at Hunters Point Avenue caused 7 train service to be suspended in both directions between Queensboro Plaza and 34th Street-Hudson Yards.

Several riders on the train with mechanical problems told NY1 that they saw smoke coming from the train and that riders panicked, saying some rushed towards the exits. However, fire officials and the MTA say there was no smoke and no fire. Fire officials say the train sparked while leaving the station.

Local service was restored at around 5:10 p.m. Tuesday. Express service remained suspended until about 6:30 p.m.

The MTA tells commuters to expect residual delays. The agency also says signal problems at Main Street are causing delays along the line.
