WATERTOWN, N.Y. -- People living in Watertown will soon be able to ice skate in the city this winter.

Parks and Recreation crews have been busy creating an outdoor ice rink. They have been hosing down the parking lot of the J.B. Wise pavilion, letting the water freeze over.

Crew members say they started Tuesday and it should take two to three days to finish making the rink.

This will be the only skating rink in the city this year, since the Municipal Arena is still closed for construction.

"Some people just like to skate outside, you know? Something about the scenery -- they really enjoy getting outside and skating," said Watertown Parks and Recreation Crew Chief Jerry Romig.

The crew hopes to have the rink open for skaters this weekend, depending on the weather.
