BROCTON, N.Y. – For the second year in a row, the St. Stephen Hotel in Brocton hosted a New Year’s ball drop.

The ball was constructed out of tubing and Christmas lights by the owner and patrons of the hotel.

Those involved say their ball drop is the highest in the country.

“We heard that New York City was 141 feet, a crane operator for Sealy Tree Service said ‘you know I got an extension we could probably get better than that,’” said Al Seavy, owner of St. Stephen’s Hotel. “We measured it out, it’s like 148 and a quarter feet so we dropped it just now and we had a pretty good crowd down here in Brocton. It was nice to see all the people come out.”

The hotel organized the ball drop along with the Village of Brocton
