Improving police community relations and drug enforcement: They're the two premier goals of the newly minted Rensselaer County Sheriff.
Under Sheriff Patrick Russo was sworn in Wednesday morning as the county's 65th sheriff. Wednesday's event was an early swearing-in ceremony for many who can't attend the county-wide ceremony on New Year's Day.
Russo, who's been in law enforcement since the 1970s, says he's not finished yet.
"I've been a cop for 40 years, and i think this was an opportunity again for me to continue serving," Russo said. "I still have some gas left in the tank, as I like to say, so I want to continue to serve."
Also sworn in at the ceremony was Chief of Corrections Edward Bly, who is Russo's under-sheriff.
