BUFFALO, N.Y. – Buffalo’s Kwanzaa committee continued their festivities for the week long celebration of the holiday.

Tuesday was the night of Ujamma which means cooperative economics. The celebration featured a special address from Kwanzaa creator Dr. Maulana Karenga.

Karenga, who usually gives his keynote in person, was unable to make it to Buffalo this year so his talk was streamed live via Skype.

The Buffalo Kwanzaa committee is happy to have the support of the creator of Kwanzaa.

“It makes us all feel really good to know that we’re doing something right and that we’re holding still to the tradition of Kwanzaa and the gusaba as a whole and actually making sure that we’re holding true to that, not just for these seven days, but for 365 days of the year and that makes a difference,” said Makeda Holley of the Buffalo Kwanzaa Committee.

Kwanzaa runs for seven days and ends on Jan. 1.
