The holiday season is not officially underway in the Hudson Valley until a certain holiday staple is on display: Eggbert.

The abnormally large egg smiles, talks, wears a crown and sits on a throne. It's been a key part of the holiday pageantry at Devitt's Nursery and Supply in New Windsor since the 1970s. Kids come from all over to give Eggbert their Christmas wish lists, which he will deliver to Santa Claus.

"It's a family tradition," Devitt's employee Jenna York said. "I feel like everybody comes to relive their Eggbert experience for their kids, even if their kids are scared or whatever. They love it. Eggbert's just a great tradition; it gets them all excited."

Eggbert will stay at Devitt's until December 23, when he goes up to the North Pole to deliver the Christmas wish lists.
