SKANEATELES, N.Y. -- With the holidays just a few weeks away, it was time for Charles Dickens and his cast of characters to transform the village streets of Skaneateles into their stage. Friday marked the return of the 22nd annual Dickens Christmas.

"I, Charles Dickens, am here learning about an American Christmas and it's beautiful," one actor said. "The town is dressed. There are horse drawn wagon rides, and hot roasted chestnuts, and coffee and soup and all complimentary things over town."

Actors took to the the streets to mingle with shoppers and put on interactive theater performances. It features characters such as Scrooge and the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future.

"Everyone should partake in this wonderful warm and glow," the 'Ghost of Christmas Past' said. "And even if it's not Christmas spirit, any type of holiday spirit, some sort of brotherhood and warmth and community. It's one of the best times of the year."

One family we caught up with has been coming to this holiday tradition for the past twelve years. They say it's an event they wouldn't miss.

"For years, we've seen Mother Goose read stories to the children," said Joanne Satter of Marietta. "We have a letter for Father Christmas. We like Scrooge running up and down the streets yelling at people. It is the holiday spirit and we have a good time every year."

Dickens and company will be back on the village street through December 24 from noon until 4 p.m.
