The Westminster Kennel Club is adding an obedience competition to next year's dog show.

The club says it will feature 35 purebred and mixed-breed pooches that will compete for the title of top dog at sitting, staying and performing on cue.

A spokesman for the competition said the show did feature some obedience exhibitions in the 1930s and 40s but clarified that they weren't competitive.

The 2016 show is set to take place in February at Madison Square Garden.
