A popular Manhattan watering hole is closing its doors.
"Hogs and Heifers" in the Meatpacking District will close next month after more than two decades in business. The bar's owner says she couldn't keep up with rising rents.
"September 1, our rent goes to $60,000 a month, and it's just not tenable. We're a 950-square foot establishment. You only get so many people in our door and we don't sell beer and alcohol for you know $12 a bottle or $20 a cocktail. It's just not what we do," says owner Michelle Dell.
"It's really sad. We've been here a really long time, and we've been in this neighborhood, and it's a staple to the neighborhood," says bartender Ashley Phillips.
Dell says she is willing to re-open in a new location in the city.
The Washington Street bar is set to close on August 23.
