LIVINGSTON MANOR, N.Y. -- The Willowemoc Creek is a quiet body of water that runs through Livingston Manor, but community leaders are hoping to bring locals and visitors closer to the creek.
"We're programming it in ways to help the community provide spaces, but also to help the creek and the natural systems in the area," said Nick Baran, of Hart Howerton.
On Wednesday, dozens came out to learn about the River Walk. The project is proposed to stretch about a quarter mile behind businesses on Main Street next to the Willowemoc Creek.
"We all love the town so much, we just like to see little bit more off-road walkable opportunities and a way to get a little closer to the natural world," said Lisa Lyons, Livingston Manor Chamber of Commerce President.
Residents also had chance to see preliminary design concepts for the project during the workshop. Many are hoping this will attract more visitors to the area.
"This is one of the projects they envision happening, so we're really excited to see it happen," said Town of Rockland Supervisor Rob Eggleton.
While this project is still in the very early stages, community leaders say public feedback will be key to making this a success.
"We're working with all the property owners that are affected by the project to see if we can deal with their concerns and issues," Lyons said. "It's very important that we go through those steps and make sure we do a good job."
