BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Emergency crews and hazardous materials teams responded Friday afternoon to an indoor pool in Buffalo's Lovejoy neighborhood.
Firefighters set up at the corner of East Lovejoy and Gold streets after responding around 1:30 p.m. Friday after a chemical leaked in the basement.
Fire Commissioner Garnell Whitfield said a lifeguard was taken to the hospital after she went into the basement, breathed in fumes and began to feel lightheaded. He said she was treated and released from the hospital.
The incident started with a leak in a hose, and a small amount of muriatic acid, used to treat pH levels, was released.
Whitfield said the pumps were cut off, the chemical has been neutralized, and crews will continue cleanup throughout the evening.
Whitfield said no one swimming at the pool was affected.
