ROTTERDAM, N.Y. -- An 17-year-old suffered severe injuries after a fall Tuesday evening at the Plotter Kill Nature Preserve in Rotterdam.

Officials said a group of six people were hiking around 7 p.m. on one of the trails when a woman fell about 50 feet down near the second waterfall.

Plotter Kill Fire Chief John Tobiassen said the woman has possible spinal and internal injuries. Another man in the group tried to help the woman, he had minor injuries and was taken to the hospital.

After several hours of treatment at the scene, the teenager was flown to Albany Medical Center.

"My assumption is they probably came down one of the trails, they probably caught the edge and slipped from there," Tobiassen said.
