OLEAN, N.Y. -- Part of North Union Street in Olean is undergoing major reconstruction as part of an $8.5 million infrastructure project.

Phase Two covers a stretch of North Union Street from the mall to Main Street.  The final design is a complete streets concept with bike lanes, crosswalks and green space.

Crews are currently installing new water lines, sewer lines and storm drains, and city officials say it's going well so far.

"The contractor is working very well with trying to keep the merchants driveways to their facilities off of North Union Street open. Most of the merchants in that area have, there is back entrances to get into their places through areas of different parking lots and that," said Olean Mayor Bill Aiello.

The construction is expected to be finished in the fall of 2016.
