GEDDES, N.Y. -- On the New York State Fair's west side, vendors are seeing a positive change.
"Traffic has been a lot better for us here this year," vendor Billy Slater said.
It's an effort from fair leaders that some vendors say is truly paying off.
"More business," Slater said. "Yes sir."
The fair took several steps to bring more traffic and business to the west side this year. A new festival area and bigger midway aim to bring more foot traffic, and a new skyliner ride connects the east end to the west end and its vendors.
"We were anticipating what it would be like," vendor Phillip Fleming said. "Turns out, it's been good so far."
Vendors said it's been a noticeable improvement from just a year ago.
"We were over there and had to give away free samples, just try to pull people in," Fleming said.
And vendors said they're seeing more business come not just this year, but with each passing day.
"A lot of people haven't made their way down yet I don't think," vendor Lori Golden said. "They go into the left as soon as they come in I think, to the attractions that are down there."
It's something the fair is working to solve, much to the delight of its West End vendors.
"Oh I'm hyped for today," Slater said. "Today's supposed to be a very good day, so that's what we're hoping for."
