St. Patrick's Day celebrations continue this week on In Focus.
JoDee Kenney talked with City of Syracuse Common Council Member Pat Hogan. He is also running for Syracuse mayor. Their talk kicked off with Green Beer Sunday festivities on Tipperary Hill. The family-oriented celebration includes a short 10-minute parade. Hogan also touched on the famous Tipp Hill stop light where it's green over red. It's the only one like it in the world.
The conversation then turned to Hogan's work on the Common Council. Hogan spoke about the housing issues Syracuse continues to face. Roughly 2,000 - 3,000 people are unhoused every night. There is also an issue with juggling the budget since 54% of the city is tax exempt because of hospitals, schools, churches, etc. Hogan talked about Syracuse's poverty issue and the importance of housing, education and jobs. Hogan say the city and the county have worked to be welcoming to businesses - including Micron and Amazon.
