We are talking about public health monitoring and prevention efforts ahead of flu season this weekend on “In Focus.”
JoDee Kenney welcomes Dr. Gale Burstein, Erie County Health commissioner, to the conversation. Dr. Burstein said the county is working with the New York State Department of Health to conduct surveillance for cases of flu, RSV and COVID-19.
This time of year, Burstein said, sees an uptick in respiratory illnesses, especially among the very old and very young.
The Erie County Department of Health conducts education and outreach campaigns and partners with healthcare providers, schools, and clinics in its Immunization Action Plan.
Dr. Burstein said this coordination is crucial to preventing the spread of flu, RSV and COVID-19.
