BUFFALO, N.Y. — A Western New York production is putting an emphasis on inclusion.

Two brothers are trying to change how people with autism are viewed in the industry. The family behind Rock Autism is finally seeing their dream come true.

“You have no clue how long I’ve been waiting for this,” said Sonny Muscato.

Max Muscato, along with his brother Sonny, who is on the autism spectrum, wrapped filming on the pilot episode of their new television show "Setlist."

“We kind of related it to life has a setlist," said Max "You have your opening number and in the middle is kind of some lows and highs but at the very end, everyone wants to go out with a bang.”

The show is loosely based on the lives of the Buffalo brothers. It centers around a family of rockers trying to get their big break in the Queen City.

“I originally wrote this story "Sonny Boy" which is the true story about what happened to my brother in the past three or four years and myself, my dad and my brother, have had this concept that we’ve been flirting with," said Max.

And the production puts an emphasis on inclusion.

“It’s awesome because there’s a certain energy that goes into that," said actor Ali Rexhepl. "I feel like they’re more aware of surroundings and things like that.”

They brought in students from Rock Autism to ensure there were people on the spectrum in both the cast and crew.

“We have our students here as interns," Max said. "They’ve been able to slate the scene operate the camera, helped with directing and lighting. We’ve had a ton as extras. A lot of them want to act."

While "Setlist" has yet to find a permanent home, Muscato is hopeful about the project's future and says he’s proud they have the chance to highlight the amazing work that those who are different can do.

“So that’s where we think we’re being a pioneer in the industry, especially here in Buffalo, we’re the only ones doing it so we know we got something special," said Max.
