CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. — A local boy is using his birthday as an opportunity to give back. He's helping other kids on the autism spectrum and that has prompted his mom to call him the King of Ausome.

Sometimes big ideas come from small places.

“Well, in the past, I was going to make it an idea to make a toy drive,” said 13-year-old Dante Naylor.

Naylor’s idea was to spread some holiday cheer by providing toys for kids on the autism spectrum like him.

“On our way home from school, or from therapy, and he was like 'mom I think I want to give toys to kids for my birthday,'" said his mom, Chuki Naylor.

With the help of his mother, Dante put a call out on social media and set up a box at the UPS Store on Harlem Road in Cheektowaga. Within weeks they had more than 350 toys.

“I saw a lot of people, a lot of response from the community," said store owner Charbel Nataniox. "It was amazing."

And the giving didn’t stop there. Soon Dante's mom started getting offers to help from places like Wegmans, the Niagara Falls Duffs and Dunkin Donuts.

“Never in my wildest dreams did I think my baby who couldn’t talk would be able to do all of this just by sharing his story and just by being naturally kind,” said Chuki.

His mom is happy to see her son wanting to give back as Dante faced his own challenges not so long ago.

“Doctors took us in a quiet room and told me that he wouldn’t see his first birthday," Chuki said. "And now we’ve seen 13.”

As for Dante, his goal is to keep spreading the love.

“I’d like to do it again next year,” Dante said.
