LACKAWANNA, N.Y. — A final goodbye for Buffalo attorney Steve Barnes and his niece, attorney Elizabeth Barnes was held Friday.
A mass was held at Our Lady of Victory National Shrine and Basilica in Lackawanna. It was also live-streamed.
The two died in a plane crash on October 2 in Pembroke.
Family came together to remember their lost loved ones.
"Just like so many others, I'm so grateful to have had you in my life, not only as a father, but as a friend. You will be forever missed, and your legacy never forgotten," said Steve Barnes' son, Josiah Barnes.
"Liz was a tough act to follow," said Elizabeth's brother, Brian Barnes. "She was smart she was athletic, she was beautiful. I feel as someone who spent a great deal of time with her for many years, that Liz's most impressive characteristic was her heart, and her inherent need to give rather than to receive."
Steve Barnes was half of the powerhouse personal injury firm, Cellino & Barnes, until the two lawyers split up the business, creating their own practices.
The NTSB released its preliminary report on the crash Thursday. The full report is expected within 12 to 24 months.
Steve Barnes was 61. Elizabeth Barnes was 32.
