BUFFALO, N.Y. — Get your green vests ready, the girl scouts are looking for members.

The Girl Scouts of Western New York held a drive-thru recruitment event in Buffalo Saturday to let people know that 2020 isn't stopping them.

They set up booths on Genesee Street where prospective scouts could learn more about the troops and register. Leaders say, joining the girl scouts isn't just about selling cookies, but empowering young women.

"We are growing our young leaders. We want our girls to be outspoken and stand up for what they believe in,” said Ashley Ayers, GSWNY senior recruiter. “That is what we are modeling. That is who we are as females. And we want them to be a part of something like that."

Girl scouts have in-person and virtual troops for those who may not feel comfortable with groups just yet.
