The Buffalo chapter of the NAACP is focusing on mental health during a time of crisis.

The chapter hosted a Zoom panel Tuesday night, which included local leaders who specialize in coping.

Panel organizers say many people, especially people of color, might be feeling a mixture of emotions, including overwhelmed because of the coronavirus pandemic and heightened racial tensions in the country.

Panelists say one of the most important things people can do is share their feelings with someone they trust.

”There has to be some sort of network you can call and confidentially because Facebook is not a therapist and we need to stop venting on Facebook as it is,” Said Reverend & Families’ Child Advocacy Network Executive Director Craig Douglass. “We need to get back to having real genuine in touch relationships where we can say listen I just need to tell you how I'm feeling about this.

Panelists say now is the time to use tools like the right to protest and vote, which not only brings change, but also empowers individuals and communities.
