A 7-year-old boy battling cancer is feeling like a hero after spending his birthday surrounded by some other caped crusaders.

Desmond Benimoff was able to celebrate his 7th birthday in a grand fashion, despite battling leukemia for the past year.

  • Cars circled the neighborhood in support

  • The family will donate a dollar for every car that passed by to charities and organizations

The parade around his Orchard Park home Saturday had some pretty famous people in attendance, including Captain America, Spider Man, Batman and Robin.

Those circling the neighborhood also included family, friends and strangers but his mom says the support was so big she lost count of the cars.

"I didn't expect so many cars," Desmond's mother Meghan Benimoff said. "I lost track of the amount of cars that came through, and I was trying to keep track because Buffalo has been so wonderful to myself and to Desmond and to the pediatric cancer community, so to give back we wanted to donate money to the four organizations that have really been key in providing programs for the children."

Benimoff said they planned to donate a dollar for every car to the organizations the Hunt Fund, the Courage of Carly Foundation, Camp Good Days, and Make A Wish.

She anticipates the donation being about $500.
