AMHERST, N.Y. — Roswell Park is breaking ground on a new cancer care facility.

Supporters of the hospital dug in Monday on the soon-to-be Roswell Park Scott Bieler Amherst Center on Park Club Lane.

The new facility will be Roswell's first newbuilding outside of its downtown Buffalo location, and will offer diagnostic and treatment services starting in 2023.

Roswell Park M&T Bank chair in leadership Candace Johnson says close to half of Roswell's patients come from communities North of Buffalo.

"We wanted to provide services such as chemotherapy, radiology, scans and so forth, in their community, in their neighborhood, so they don't have to drive downtown," Johnson said.

The center will additionally provide consultative services, dermatology, and GU care.

The building is being named after longtime Roswell supporter and auto dealer Scott Bieler, who has supported the hospital for 20 years.
