If you need a good pick-me-up, you won't have to look far, because Buffalo's Best Batman is just a call away.

What You Need To Know

  • Buffalo's Best Batman is an everyday hero

  • William Lorenz Jr. got the Batman title back in 2014

  • He wants to put a smile on people's faces

Whether it's fighting off the bad guys or doing push-ups to raise awareness for mental health, Buffalo's Best Batman is to the rescue.

"If any organization or individuals are looking to bring some happiness in their lives, light the bat signal and I'll be there," he said.

You may have seen Batman at local bookstores and markets, but what about the man behind the costume? His name is William Lorenz Jr., and he's an attorney.

"I loved Batman and comic books since I was a child and especially loved the films," Lorenz said.

In 2014, the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library named Lorenz Buffalo's Best Batman and ever since, he's lived up to the title. You can catch him making appearances at birthday parties, helping out at food drives, and visting sick patients at the hospital, just to name a few.

"I feel the need to give back any way I can, whether that's in my non-superhero life as an attorney or being able to dress up and put a smile on a child's face or a grown-up's face," he said.

Even in a pandemic when the smiles are covered by face masks, it's all still worth it for him.

He recently offered his services at a Halloween trunk or treat at the city's Central Terminal.

"You turn on the news and it's incredibly depressing, not just for children, but for grown-ups as well, so if they come out to celebrate Halloween as safely as possible and they leave feeling a little happier that they saw a superhero or a ghostbuster, then we've done our job," he said.

It's a job he takes seriously and plans to do for as long as he can.

"As long as the suit still fits, I'll be out there," he said.
