Local college students are publicly calling for the reversal of employee cuts.
Canisius College students held a rally at the school's science hall on Saturday to reject faculty and staff cuts.
Due to the COVID-19 crisis, cuts were made to all areas of the college, including 71 staff members and over 20 faculty positions.
Canisius alumni started a Facebook group and the rally.
"A lot of the alumni feel betrayed, and the faculty and staff, we all feel betrayed. We feel as though Canisius says we're a Jesuit institution, we believe all these things, we want you to believe this, here is your home and these kinds of decisions just violate all of that," said alumna Katrina Cosgrove.
Canisius president John Hurley responded to the rally, saying Canisius has proven itself as a resilient institution that adapts to changing needs of students.
To thrive for future generations, Hurley stated the school must constantly renew its educational promise to those it serves.
