The Buffalo Teachers Federation is at odds with Buffalo Public Schools over how they are rolling out school reopening plans.
Union President Phil Rumore is calling for the removal of administrators involved in the BPS "reopening committee" and claims there has been too much secrecy and uncertainty in how the BPS plans to safely bring students and teachers back to school.
The Buffalo Public School District says they plan to simultaneous release their plans to the state as well as online. They say this is a fluid and transparent process that included stakeholders from the very beginning.
"You can make up for some of the education that some of these students have lost, but you can’t bring somebody back to life and that's how serious this is,” said Rumore.
"Our plan may not be as detailed as Mr. Rumore thinks it should be, however, through the month of August we will be adding more specificity to the plan, getting more details if there is more clarification that we need from the department of health,” said Darren Brown-Hall, Buffalo Public School chief of staff.
The Buffalo Public Schools say the plan that will be published online is not final and will also be tweaked with suggestions from the public.
Virtual meetings are being planned to get public input and feedback.
