The University at Buffalo has released health guidelines for the upcoming academic year, as universities across the state and nation prepare for a return to school during the coronavirus pandemic.

The guidelines, which include mandatory health screenings, face coverings, among others, will be implemented across the campus community.

The University said the guidelines will allow it to deliver excellent education experiences and research programs while protecting the health and safety of the community.

To reduce the risk of virus transmission, the university is requiring precautionary seven-day quarantine at their own residents for all UB students, faculty, and staff who return for this academic year in August.

In addition, face coverings are required at all times when inside UB buildings, classrooms, labs, facilities, by all staff, students, faculty, and visitors.

A statement from the university read, in a part:

“All members of the UB community have a shared responsibility to follow the guidance on face coverings, physical distancing, handwashing, health screening and monitoring, as well as the request to undergo a precautionary seven-day quarantine prior to returning to campus for the fall semester.”

UB will utilize a mix of in-person and remote classes. The university will also institute mandatory health screenings using chatbox technology for students, faculty, and staff, according to the university.
