BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- A community was in frustration Friday night.
"This is what they want you to see," said Soljah Gascot, a neighborhood resident. "They don't want you to see when the cops are out here chilling with us, chopping it up with us and telling us to go the right direction."
Residents were irritated after learning about another shooting along Susquehanna Street. It happened Friday afternoon at a local deli. Police say a four people were shot after a fight broke out. At least one of the injured needed surgery.
"It's really scary because I have friends who have younger siblings and stuff, and obviously, I want it to be safe," said Adam Di Rosa, a Binghamton resident.
Residents say safety is sometimes challenging.
"When people are put on the brink and they're struggling, they do certain things to get by. You know what I'm saying? They're going to do that regardless," said Gascot.
Friday's shooting is the third shooting on the street in less than a year. In June, police investigated a shooting where both the suspect and victim fled the scene.
In October, a 35-year-old man was fatally shot in the chest.
"My friend's family have told us to stay away from that street just because it's dangerous down there. When I heard that it was that store, I wasn't surprised," said Di Rosa.
Despite the problems the area has seen, neighbors say it's a close community where people support one another.
"There might be a lot of dangerous stuff that happens around here, but this is a loving community. I don't want people to see that and then they take it the wrong way. They think that we're all about violence," said Gascot.
"This is not the image we want to be. Let's make this make us better."
