BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Ronald Epps, an Orchard Park man long suspected of killing his fiancée, was sentenced Thursday to 60 years in prison.
Epps was never charged with murder in the 2009 death of Angela Moss, but instead with arson plus wire and insurance fraud.
Prosecutors maintain the evidence shows Epps killed Moss for insurance money. They contend Epps shot Moss in the back of the head and then set her apartment on fire. He tried to collect $100,000 in insurance money just days after her death.
"After he could not get the insurance policy for the homicide, he attempted twice to torch the apartment in which the two of them lived. That effort was also unsuccessful so without any means thereafter, he began selling drugs. We arrested him on drug and firearm charges," said Acting U.S. Attorney James Kennedy.
Angela Moss' family did not speak to the media after the sentencing, but those involved in getting justice for her say they're relieved Epps is off the streets for good.
