Chautauqua County leaders say they no longer have the capacity to trace the number of COVID-19 cases in their county.

Public Health Director Christine Schuyler says people should not expect calls from the health department.

“You no longer should expect to receive a call from us, nor do you need to call us,” said Schuyler. “Please follow the general direction that we provide for isolation and quarantine and contact your healthcare provider for medical advice. If you are in need of isolation or quarantine documents, they are available on our website.”

She is asking people to follow the CDC recommendations regardless of whether they are vaccinated.

The Erie County Health Department recently adjusted its COVID-19 practices as well, given similar struggles to keep up with contact tracing.
