Niagara County is implementing a new COVID-19 quarantine policy that will allow some to leave isolation sooner.

Any county residents identified as a close contact to a COVID-positive person must spend at least a week in quarantine instead of the usual 10 days.

However, the Niagara County Department of Health says you can only leave quarantine early on day eight if you've tested negative within the previous 48 hours.

The county will not accept at-home test results for early release, only PCR or antigen tests conducted by a licensed laboratory.

The county also says people who come into contact with a COVID-positive individual don't need to quarantine if they are fully vaccinated and have no symptoms. However, you still need to get tested five to seven days after exposure and wear a mask until your results return.
