BUFFALO, N.Y. — Beginning Wednesday, New Yorkers age 60 and older are eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. Prior to Wednesday, only people 65 and older were eligible, unless they had a qualifying comorbidity.

The KeyBank Center in Buffalo also opens as a vaccination site on Wednesday.

The site is expected to vaccinate more than 1,000 people per day, and beginning at 8 a.m. Wednesday, people age 60 and older can schedule an appointment for the location.

Next week, government employees, nonprofit workers, and essential building service workers will be eligible as well.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo also announced the state is expanding who will be allowed to administer the vaccine. Starting next week, any vaccination site will be allowed to vaccinate any eligible person in New York. This -excludes pharmacies, who will continue to focus their efforts on vaccinating people 60 and over, as well as teachers.

Previously, certain types of providers were directed to focus their vaccination efforts on specific groups, such as hospitals only vaccinated health care workers. That's according to the state's website.

New Yorkers can make appointments at state-run vaccination sites by utilizing New York's "Am I Eligible" website or by calling 1-833-697-4829.

If you get vaccinated at the KeyBank Center, vaccinations will be administered at the Lexus Club inside the arena.
