The New York State Department of Health is releasing new data on just how many nursing home residents died from COVID-19 since last march.

State data showed in Erie County, 630 residents either were confirmed or presumed to have died of the virus inside nursing homes.

But according to new data, there were an additional 219 individuals who died in hospitals or other facilities, bringing the total to 849 deaths.

In Niagara County, previous data showed 122 deaths, but the new data adds another 24 to the total death toll.

In the Southern Tier, there were 16 deaths previously unreported between Allegany, Chautauqua, and Cattaraugus counties.
