Reopening New York is something people have anticipated for months. Others, however, are asking is it too soon to start moving in that direction.

Just a few days ago Governor Andrew Cuomo lifted most orange and yellow zone restrictions across the state.

A Buffalo medical professor who says based on case numbers, now was the right time to do that.

But people still need to be careful.

He says we can't treat it like the first day of spring, comparing how everyone rushes outside once we get a nice day to people rushing to fill restaurants and stores.

"And what it really comes down to is particularly when we're indoors, you're sharing your air with someone else,” said University at Buffalo Professor of Medicine John Sellick. “And the question is who are you sharing that air with, because you have to take your mask off to eat and to drink, and there may be people who are infected who are putting virus particles in to the air."

Sellick says we'll need to get a lot more people vaccinated before all restrictions can be lifted.

Until then he reminds everyone to wear a mask, practice social distancing, and follow other guidelines to stay safe.
